Why Is Tech Fascism Happening?
1. Worker and social organizing against venture capital and tech elite inside of the tech industry in web 2.0.
This ain’t our first round with the tech fascists. In the web 2.0 bubble and particularly between the years of 2012ish - 2016ish, there was an absolute bloom of beautiful resistance and independent organization, working on a massive range of issues inside the field. We were all over their asses on gentrification, wealth inequality, labor abuses, transmisogyny, surveillance, anti-Blackness, exploitation of children on platforms, military technology, women in tech, online harassment.
We were trying to change the industry, change the money, build our own technology infrastructure — there were projects for independent social media, community funding arms, new media, educational programs for youth, our own technology conferences, outside of big tech and venture capital. This part was the biggest threat to them of all… we were gonna go our own fucking way and we wanted to make technology outside of… them.
They hated that.
We could have had it all. Unfortunately what happened is that venture capitalists entered into open attack on the movement — called by them the “techlash” — and this was a key factor in the evolution into fascism; we, as the movement, created a crisis for them. They retaliated — many members of the movement suffered organized harassment, rape threats, death threats, had to go into hiding, lost their careers and community, etc. In committing wholesale sabotage of the movement they developed the aggressive and terroristic fascist character.
And even after they destroyed our movement, they kept going.
2. Tech elite were experiencing global resistance and revolutionary activity, simultaneously, and on every front.
First, they are the operators of social media platforms globally. Peter Thiel and/or Marc Andreessen were behind Facebook, Instagram, Buzzfeed, Pinterest, Reddit, Hacker News, Jack Dorsey who is also a fascist running Twitter, and they had many startups hooked up to Twitter data where they were watching all this shit play out, and Twitter was where venture capitalists sat day in and day out as they do to this day. Twitter is like crack to a venture capitalist.
So through all of these social media platforms and surveillance they had the best seat in the house to the uprisings of Arab Spring, Occupy Wall Street, Ferguson, #MeToo, and every other social movement… globally. And when they saw that shit… they were terrified. They realized that there was enough progressive energy in the world to destroy them. Once again, this created a crisis and a need for counter-revolutionary strategy. Ergo, we arrived at fascism.
Venture capitalists also had hundreds of startups and many of those were exploiting people and fucking people over and destroying communities, and of course the people resisted and fought back. Tensions with ride share drivers and unions, fights over gig labor exploitation and outsourcing conditions, communities that were fighting AirBnB, communities that were fighting surveillance, protests of social media platforms, rebellion against the tech takeover of San Francisco and the mid-market tax breaks.
The venture capitalists — by their own hands — were heavily and constantly and personally beefing with all kinds of marginalized communities who were fighting back and also doing so around the world, from moderators in Kenya to tech campus drivers in California. While many people offhand reject the idea that venture capitalists have been meaningfully engaged in social issues, the opposite is true: because they had hundreds of startups, all of which were fucking people over, they experienced social resistance from thousands of angles. While from our side we perceived this as action we took across a range of tech companies — mostly not knowing it was all the same thing — THEY knew it all came back to them. And they were scared. And they felt oppressed. And so they started a movement of their own, the fascist movement we see today.
3. Monopolization and concentration of venture capital; formation of venture capital cartels.
Over time, a small group of venture capitalists have been able to gain control of the industry. There are less firms now, and the small firms cannot compete unless the big ones want them in the deal, and the large firms have grown bigger and taken on more and more money. The same small conspiracy is forming a monopoly.
From the fine folks at Pitchbook who have been tracking this phenomenon and doing a great goddamn job at it too:
“In 2024, 30 firms raised 75% of all capital raised by VC funds in the US, a powerful signal of how the tech pullback is concentrating influence among the venture industry’s heavyweights. Just nine of them took in $35 billion — half of the total raised, according to PitchBook data. And just one firm, Andreessen Horowitz, brought in over 11% of all capital raised.”
Add this to the fact that among the remaining venture capital firms, a raft of them work together on the same agendas and investment strategies, including American Dynamism and defense funding, AI and crypto. This includes General Catalyst, who combined with Andreessen Horowitz were the top two raisers of 2024, with a combined total of $13.2 billion raised.
Other firms that are part of the tech fascist cartel include Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, kept a lower profile last year so it isn’t reflected in that chart, but this year has raised a stunning 4.6 billion dollars, meaning that our big 3 in the venture capital world is General Catalyst, Founders Fund and Andreessen Horowitz… all on the exact same page and co-investing in tons of evil shit together.
YCombinator isn’t on there in terms of mega-bucks but that doesn’t make them less important — they simply invest in earlier-stage startups, providing less financing but more impact. These are joined by ideologically and financially aligned firms, many of which are the funds of various people from the PayPal Mafia, like Apollo, 8VC, Khosla Ventures, Craft Ventures; Paradigm is a huge crypto investor and investor in Praxis, then you have shit like Lux Capital, Sequoia, Shield Capital and Innovation Endeavors. The “network model” for venture capital has also led to insularity, group think and ideological extremism.
Another outcome was giving venture capital control over massive amounts of infrastructure in every vertical, but you can read more about that in my post The Startup Armada, The True VC Power.
In short. The fascists are establishing a monopoly inside of venture capital and are working to complete that. They use this monopoly to control and dictate technology production, to implant radical ideology in startups, to create fascist startups, eliminate competition, and hoover up more and more centralized power and control.
4. Alliance with CIA and Israel
The connection of tech fascists to these psychos, CIA and Israel, goes back a long time. The canonical example would be Oracle, the megaton database company, whose first financier and client was CIA. Larry Ellison is extremely close friends with one Elon Musk.
Fortuitously for this article, the abovely-linked Gizmodo article references a *2002* editorial, entitled A SINGLE NATIONAL SECURITY DATABASE, by one Larry Ellison, in which he states:
The single greatest step we Americans could take to make life tougher for terrorists would be to ensure that all the information in myriad government databases was copied into a single, comprehensive national security database.
Today every federal intelligence and law enforcement agency, not to mention all manner of state and local bodies, maintains its own separate database on people suspected of being criminals or terrorists. A multitude of separate databases makes it very difficult for one agency to know about and apprehend someone wanted by another agency.
For example, if there is a warrant for your arrest in Florida, that warrant will not be detected when you enter the country and show your passport at, say, Boston's Logan airport. Immigration officials check a couple of interagency watch list databases called NAILS and IBIS, but do not cross-check the other federal, state and local databases. There are simply too many of them...
A single, comprehensive national security database would make such watch list cross-checking far easier and quicker. Creating such a database is technically simple. All we have to do is copy information from the hundreds of separate law enforcement databases into a single database. A national security database could be built in a few months.
A national security database combined with biometrics, thumb prints, hand prints, iris scans or whatever is best can be used to detect people with false identities.
I remind you this was written in 2002 and that is exactly what they are doing by force now.
The editorial further notes “The writer is founder and chief executive of Oracle Corp., the world's largest supplier of database technology; he has offered to provide the software to establish a U.S. national security database without charge.”
LMFAO LMFAO LMFAO. That is our Larry, a majestic beast of the apocalypse, galloping furiously out of the gates now that his BFF Elon Musk has opened them. Surely the DBAs did not know how right they were to curse SQL.
Oracle is also hella Zionist and Larry Ellison has been a Zionist since he was a young boy in Chicago. Most recently in a long line of collaboration, Oracle is building an underground datacenter for Israel. 9 floors deep.
I won’t rehash my points about CIA and tech fascism + Israel here, but suffice to say: CIA and the tech fascists and Israel are in way deep. CIA has its own venture capital firm that has been openly operating in Silicon Valley since 1999, In-Q-Tel. Marc Andreessen served on a secret advisory board for CIA under Pompeo. And it goes on and fuckin on.
These alliances with the extremist elements of Israel and CIA have been huge contributing factors and motivations for the development of tech fascism. If you are interested in going deeper into this point you can check out :

5. COVID
It was during COVID that tech fascists really went off the deep end… and the reason for this is because the government and medical infrastructure’s inability to meet the demands of the crisis demonstrated to them that the country was near dead and ripe for the taking.
During COVID is when Marc Andreessen penned one of his many manifestos, IT’S TIME TO BUILD. He has since given an interview where he spoke about writing it:
Interviewer: I would be remiss if I didn’t ask about this. A few weeks ago you obviously had your famous essay calling on people to ‘build’. Can you walk us through the process of writing that? Was it a Jerry Maguire-style one-night memo?
Yeah, that was a single night. It was literally a single night. It started with the ponchos thing. I would describe it as a combination of ‘bottoms up’ and ‘top down’. So the bottoms-up - I read the story in the Wall Street Journal about how during the height of the virus with people dying all over the place, not only did the hospitals not have enough masks for hospital workers but they also didn’t have enough medical gowns. And so the city put out a call for citizens to be able to volunteer their rain poncho so the hospital system can protect their healthcare workers. And... I decided I couldn't take any more. I just snapped. I literally just sat down and pounded out that essay over the next four hours, fueled by rage.”
Basically, COVID revealed how dead and decrepit and fucked the government actually was, the profound state of disrepair of the institutions, it highlighted the public lack of trust in institutions. It demonstrated… an opportunity.
At the same time, the uprising of protest in the wake of George Floyd’s murder by police was unfolding… demonstrating that with a state up in the air and collapsing, there was a competition for the throne, that the people could seize control of the country if there wasn’t something else to take over. And in this moment is when venture capitalists decided they were gonna go for gold.
In the same interview, Marc Andreessen stated: “However we built those systems in the past, it's failing us. And so we need to rethink. Quite literally, it's like, okay, where are the schools? Where are the hospitals? Where are the houses?”
His essay It’s Time to Build became one of many documents through which they developed the ideology and platform — ultimately American Dynamism — to take over the government, replace the existing elite, and turn development of the country over to venture capitalists. Ultimately, it was the crisis they needed.
Conclusion
These are not the only factors, and surely, when I publish this it will immediately dawn on me some matter more desperate to include; however, this is a start.
